The program included items from film and stage complimenting the warm and comfortable setting of the Pavilion Theatre, which has been lovingly restored to its former glory. All the proceeds from the afternoon were towards the Gorleston Bandstand Project, lead by the Gorleston Rotary Club. The ambitious project, once built, will see another venue to hear local musicians perform during the summer holiday season, that is still proving as popular as ever. There now starts a busy time for the Band in the run up to Christmas, including their own Christmas Brass 2005 at Christchurch, Great Yarmouth on Sunday December 11th at 3 p.m. With nearly two thirds of the available tickets already reserved, the event now in its sixth year, is again expected to be a complete sell out. To reserve tickets for Christmas Brass 2005, telephone the band secretary 01493 844242 or email

November 16th 2005 - Great Yarmouth Brass- launched a successful new initiative in 2005 by working with a nominated "Partner Good Cause". Their first partner good cause has been the Lowestoft Gateway Club, a social club for people with learning disabilities that meet at Denes High School each Thursday evening during term time. The highlight of the year was a concert given by the band at the Denes High School on September 27th that has taken the total given to the club so far this year to nearly £1,000. The band is now looking for nominations for Partner Good Cause 2006. Whoever is chosen, Great Yarmouth Brass will promote awareness of the organisation at their many concerts through the year, pass on any donations given to the band from extra concerts and provide a full Gala Concert with all proceeds going to the chosen partner good cause. For more information please contact the band Secretary on 01493 844242 or email with your nomination. November 8th 2005 - Great Yarmouth Brass - this week took delivery of a brand new Besson tuba for their youth band. The band's investment in a new tuba replaces an instrument dating back to the 1930's and will be used by thirteen year old Peter Swatman, who is currently working towards his Grade 5 Practical having already gained his Grade 4. With the cost of tubas up to £6,000 each, learning these instruments is becoming increasingly prohibitive for the next generation of low brass players and this investment, along with the other instruments currently loaned by the band to the members of the youth section, will go some way to keep Brass music alive in the area. Without the next generation of brass players the very British tradition of summer Sunday afternoons on the bandstand, enjoyed by the many visitors to the town, could be under threat. With the help from a grant from the national lottery, Great Yarmouth Brass were able to replace all their instruments eight years ago and the old instruments loaned to young people in the area. Since the formation of the Youth Band eight years ago, some former members have progressed on to National Championship level and even membership to the National Youth Brass Band. Great Yarmouth Brass would be pleased to hear from young people between the ages of 10 and 16 to join the youth band, who meet each Friday evening in the Jubilee Room at Cobholm Community Centre and currently have some instruments available for loan.
