GYB Future Brass
GYB Future Brass is our new name for the Youth Band and Training Bands of Great Yarmouth Brass. To ensure an easy and smooth transition for players between bands we decided to bring both groups under the same banner under the direction of Joel Heys.
The intermediate group previously known as the Youth Band was formed in 1997 and now consists of school age children along with some adults. This group performs throughout the year in Great Yarmouth entertaining shoppers at Christmas time, performing in residential homes, at Church services and also at the now annual GYB Future Brass Concert where all GYB groups perform.
The group for beginners, previously known as the Training Band was formed in March 2014 following a very successful “Brass Adventure Fun Day” in February of the same year. This exciting day acted as a recruitment day for the group and attracted budding musicians of all ages from across Norfolk. The group now has a healthy number of players who attend weekly during term time and have learnt to play instruments from scratch in a group setting under the direction of Penny Gilbert and Sarah Doe. The group were delighted to perform their very first concert together in July 2014 and performed their first GYB Future Brass Concert in October 2014.
The youngsters from the Training Band section have made such good progress that the two Future Brass bands are currently rehearsing together. We plan to run another recruitment drive for beginners in the near future.
